Maia Sandu begins a diplomatic tour, visiting the European Parliament, the Netherlands, and the Globsec Forum in Prague

During a diplomatic tour, President Maia Sandu will promote expanded partnerships for the security and development of the Republic of Moldova, which includes visits to the European Parliament, the Netherlands, and the Czech Republic.

The discussions this week will focus on protecting domestic democracy and the necessary steps for Moldova's accession to the EU. President Maia Sandu will participate in this diplomatic tour, which includes the international security forum in Prague.

The tour will begin on Tuesday, May 19, in Strasbourg during a plenary session of the European Parliament. Here, President Sandu will meet with Roberta Metsola, the President of the European Parliament, as well as with leaders from major European political groups: the European People's Party (EPP), the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D), the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR), Renew Europe, and the Greens/European Free Alliance (Greens/EFA).

Additionally, Maia Sandu is slated to receive the European Order of Merit, a distinction established by the European Parliament to mark the 75th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration. This award is given to individuals who have made significant contributions to promoting European values and strengthening the European project.

On May 20, President Sandu will travel to the Netherlands to meet with Prime Minister Rob Jetten and Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen. They will discuss bilateral cooperation and European support.

Later, on May 21, she will participate in the Globsec Forum, which is one of the most significant international platforms dedicated to foreign and security policies, at the invitation of Czech President Petr Pavel. During this forum, President Sandu will deliver a speech highlighting Chisinau's experience in protecting democracy and resisting foreign interference.

An official meeting between Maia Sandu and her Czech counterpart, Petr Pavel, is also scheduled on the sidelines of the forum.

According to the Presidency, all visits this week aim to promote the interests of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova "to build a secure and prosperous country through partnerships and future membership in the European Union."
