Olesea Stamate: Moldovan prosecutors and judges will be evaluated by the end of 2025
Moldovan prosecutors and judges will be evaluated by the end of 2025 in terms of integrity and professionalism, Olesea Stamate, President of the Parliament's legal commission, told R-live. According to her, two commissions will be created: one will evaluate the judges, and the other - the prosecutors.
"The plan to complete the vetting is 2.5 years, until the end of 2025. Two commissions are to be created: one for judges and another for prosecutors and to have the capacity to assess around 100 candidates per year. It is not in the draft law on full vetting to reach every judge and prosecutor up to the trial courts, but presidents, vice-presidents, former presidents, including interims, who have held positions in trial courts and territorial prosecutors' offices, to be evaluated. The candidates who are going to take up the position of SCJ judge, prosecutor at the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office, following the release of positions through vetting, they still have to be evaluated by the commissions", said Olesea Stamate.
Olesea Stamate also added that the judges who passed the test of integrity and professionalism will receive increased salaries. The president of the legal, appointments and immunities committee of the Parliament also said that these increases are to ensure an integrated system.
Also, Olesea Stamate says that judges' salaries have not been adjusted since 2016, even if it is a decision of the Constitutional Court that obliges them to make the increase related to the inflation rate. But due to budgetary constraints, they cannot do this.
