CNAM's IT systems increasingly targeted by cyberattacks

The computer systems of the National Health Insurance Company (CNAM) are often targeted by cyberattacks. Recently, one of the 16 systems managed by the institution was subjected to a large-scale attack, according to CNAM Director Ion Dodon. He stated that authorities are currently investigating the incident, but so far, there is no evidence that citizens' data has been compromised or published online.
"It is unfortunate that we find ourselves in a situation where numerous attempts to attack our information systems are quite common. Recently, we experienced a significant attack. However, we have taken control of the situation and secured the system to mitigate any further attacks," declared Ion Dodon on the show "Pe față" on Moldova 1.
According to the director of the National Health Insurance Company (CNAM), an investigation into the incident is ongoing. The institution is collaborating with relevant authorities to determine if there were any attempts to extract data.
Ion Dodon stated that, to date, no information leaks have been identified online, and the data within CNAM's systems has not been altered.
"There is currently no definitive information on whether any data was extracted or exfiltrated, nor on the volume of such data. We are working with the relevant institutions in Moldova to conduct investigations, and we will announce confirmed findings to the public as soon as we have them. The data is preserved; there have been no changes; it has not been destroyed; and there is no erroneous data; therefore, the data remains intact. So far, there has been no leak of data in the online environment," he said.
A few weeks ago, the National Health Insurance Company announced that it had managed a cybersecurity incident targeting one of its information systems. At that time, the company indicated that technical assessments suggested a possible exfiltration of some data, but confirmed that the integrity of the databases was maintained and the operations of medical institutions were not affected.
CNAM asserted that the attacked system was immediately secured and that additional measures have been implemented to strengthen information system protection.
