Eurovision sparks major interest: Moldova 1 TV tops viewer preferences

The Eurovision Song Contest remains popular among viewers in Moldova. The public television channel, Moldova 1 TV, broadcast the semi-finals on May 12 and 14, and the final on May 16, achieving a significant audience share.
During the first semi-final of the competition, which was opened by the representative from the Republic of Moldova, Satoshi, with the song "Viva, Moldova!," the public television station recorded a market share of 16.59%. In total, 72,954 viewers watched the show on the night of May 12-13.
In the second semi-final, Moldova 1 TV recorded a market share of 9.7%, with the peak viewership reached during the final on the night of May 16-17.
Specifically, Moldova 1's market share throughout the Eurovision 2026 final was 20.94%, increasing to 37.41% from 02:00 to 02:09, when the final rankings were announced. In total, 67,054 people watched the Eurovision 2026 final.
Compared to the last two editions of the music competition, this year's event enjoyed significantly higher popularity. The final of the 2024 contest, in which the Republic of Moldova's representative, Natalia Barbu, ranked 13th, attracted 26,654 viewers. Last year, when Moldova did not participate in Eurovision, only 17,880 viewers tuned in to watch the show.
The Republic of Moldova achieved 8th place at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026. The song "Viva, Moldova!," performed by Satoshi, scored 43 points from the jury and 183 points from the audience, totaling 226 points. This result marks the Republic of Moldova's fourth-best performance in its 20 years of participation in the music competition.
The greatest successes for Moldova were recorded in 2017, when the band SunStroke Project placed 3rd with the hit "Hey, Mamma!", in 2005, when Zdob și Zdub achieved 6th place with the song "Boonika bate toba", and in 2022, when the Zdubs, together with the Advahov Brothers, placed 7th with "Trenulețul."
The Eurovision Song Contest 2026 was won by the Bulgarian representative, Dara, who performed the song "Banagaranga" and received a total of 516 points, making her both the audience's and the jury's favorite.
