Companie din nordul țării, cu sistem de colectare și reutilizare a apei pluviale: „Ținem mult la energie, la apă și încercăm să reutilizăm”

A catering company in the village of Șuri, Drochia district, has introduced a rainwater harvesting and reuse system with support from an EU-funded sustainability grant, reducing resource consumption and operating costs while strengthening environmental performance.
The business, founded and managed by Diana Grosu, received €8,160 (approx. 160,000 MDL) through Moldova’s SME Greening Programme, implemented by the Organization for Entrepreneurship Development (ODA) and financed by the European Union.
The funding enabled the construction of an underground rainwater collection system that captures and stores precipitation for later use in the company’s operations. The investment supports water efficiency in a sector where hygiene standards and reliable access to water are essential.
“We try to use both water and energy responsibly and make the most of available resources,” Grosu said. She noted that the grant financed the purchase of pipes and excavation works required for the underground infrastructure.
The entrepreneur said sustainable investments, including water reuse and solar energy solutions, are particularly important for young businesses seeking long-term resilience. She also welcomed continued support from the European Union and Moldovan authorities for entrepreneurship development.
According to Olesea Draguțan, Head of Beneficiary Relations at ODA, interest in environmental investments has increased significantly in recent years. While demand for the greening programme remained below expectations when it was launched in 2019, applications have risen steadily since 2024.
More than 200 companies have already received funding through the programme, with grants exceeding 50 million MDL and generating around 100 million MDL in environmentally focused investments across the economy, Draguțan said.
For 2026, approximately 13 million MDL has been allocated to support further greening initiatives and advance Moldova’s ecological transition objectives.
The growing uptake of sustainability financing reflects a broader shift in business priorities, as companies increasingly seek solutions that combine profitability with environmental responsibility. Green finance is no longer viewed as a niche concept but as an increasingly important driver of long-term economic development and innovation.
