Washington nominates Envoy to the Republic of Moldova

The United States could soon have a fully accredited ambassador in Chisinau after the administration submitted Joseph Burkhalter’s nomination to the Senate. The nomination is part of a broader package of diplomatic and administrative appointments awaiting legislative review and approval.
According to the White House, Joseph Burkhalter is an American diplomat from Georgia.
His name appears on a list sent to the Senate that includes ambassadorial nominations for countries such as Brazil, Indonesia, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Egypt, Serbia, Kenya, Ecuador, and Paraguay, along with appointments to key positions at the State Department and other federal agencies.
The United States has not had a Senate confirmed ambassador in Chisinau since Kent D. Logsdon completed his mission in May 2024. The embassy has been led by Chargé d’Affaires Nick Pietrowicz since August 2025.
Logsdon served as US ambassador to Moldova from December 2021 until spring 2024. At the end of his mission, President Maia Sandu awarded him the Order of Honour in recognition of his contribution to strengthening Moldova-US relations.
