Marta Kos to mayors: EU expands school modernization in Moldova

The European Union (EU) will contribute to the modernization of 20 additional schools in the Republic of Moldova and will continue to support local projects aimed at improving infrastructure, public services, and living conditions through the "European Village" program. This assistance was discussed during a meeting between the European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, and mayors from various regions of the country.
According to the Delegation of the European Union in Chisinau, the meeting was a continuation of the dialogue with local authorities that started in Brussels in August 2025.
The discussions centered on the priorities of local communities and how European support could better address the needs of citizens.
For the people, the European path signifies tangible changes: improved schools, more efficient public services, enhanced local infrastructure, and increased opportunities within their communities, as stated in the press release.

On Saturday, June 6, Marta Kos returned to the Martha and Mary Monastery, a site rich in faith, traditions, and continuity.
The Commissioner visited the monastery again in September 2025, reinforcing her appreciation for the cultural and spiritual heritage of the Republic of Moldova.
During her visit, Marta Kos highlighted that the values passed down through generations are essential to the country’s cultural wealth. She noted that in the European Union, the identity and traditions of communities are respected, valued, and preserved.

We remind you that Marta Kos, the European Commissioner, is on an official visit to the Republic of Moldova from June 4 to June 6. During her visit, she opened both the EU-Moldova Investment Conference and the Moldova Digital Summit. Her agenda also included meetings with President Maia Sandu, the leadership of the Parliament, and opposition leaders.
This marks Marta Kos's fourth visit to Chisinau since she took office on December 1, 2024. Her first visit occurred on February 5, 2025, during which she held discussions with civil society, academia, and the business community on Moldova's accession. This dialogue was organized by the Office for European Integration in collaboration with the Institute for European Policies and Reforms (IPRE). During this visit, Kos emphasized that Brussels' support would be contingent upon the continuation of reforms.
An official visit followed from September 3 to September 5, 2025. During this trip, the Commissioner highlighted significant outcomes of Moldova's European journey, including the completion of the screening process, the country's accession to the "Roam Like at Home" initiative, and a new trade regime that expands export opportunities for Moldovan producers. She also held meetings with investors and entrepreneurs.
Her third trip, on November 11, 2025, focused on presenting the 2025 Enlargement Report. During this visit, Kos met with the new government led by Alexandru Munteanu, the Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gherasimov, and participated in the Women4Security Forum. She also attended the conference on the report and engaged with the newly established Parliamentary Committee for European Integration.
These visits have coincided with tangible progress in Moldova's accession process. Notable milestones include the completion of bilateral screening in September 2025, the launching of technical discussions on the first three chapters in mid-December 2025, and the technical opening of all six clusters by March 2026.
