Torrential overnight rainfall triggered severe flash floods across Chisinau, paralyzing traffic on major arterial routes. National Police patrol units deployed immediately to manage the unfolding gridlock as meteorologists warn of continued precipitation.

According to an official statement by the National Police, “until this hour, in Chisinau municipality several accumulations of water on the roadway have been recorded, which make road traffic difficult on certain road sectors.”

Authorities noted that unfavorable weather conditions will likely persist. This ongoing rainfall could expand localized flooding and cause further transit delays.

Affected areas and critical bottlenecks

Flash points include Petru Zadnipru Street, Muncești Highway, Calea Ieșilor Street, and Ion Inculeț Street. Severe disruptions also hit the Durlești suburb on Tudor Vladimirescu Street and the Dumbrava segment connecting to the M1 highway.

Major intersections remain underwater, specifically the junctions of Vadul lui Vodă with Nicolae Milescu Spătaru and Tudor Vladimirescu. In the city center, the Albișoara intersection with Renașterii Naționale Boulevard and Vasile Alecsandri Street faces similar blocks.

“Patrol teams are monitoring the situation on the ground and are intervening to streamline traffic,” stated police representatives.

Law enforcement urges drivers to exercise high caution. “Drivers are urged to show maximum caution, adapt their speed to road conditions, and avoid, as much as possible, the affected areas,” the release concluded.
