Alliance responds to Romania’s request following drone incidents
The North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) announced on June 10 that it is continuously adapting its defense measures in response to threats arising from Russia's war against Ukraine and the growing number of drone incidents near its borders.
The statement came after a nearly two-hour meeting requested by Bucharest, following recent incidents in Galați and Constanța.
Romanian authorities have called for enhanced surveillance and defense capabilities along the eastern flank. This includes the addition of radar systems and improved drone interception measures, as reported by Digi24.ro.

NATO has issued a clear message regarding recent drone incidents near or over the territories of its member states on the eastern flank. This comes amid escalating attacks and military operations in the Black Sea region.
In recent years, Romania has frequently reported the discovery of drone fragments or unmanned aircraft close to its border with Ukraine. However, recent incidents in Galați and Constanța have raised significant concerns about the security of civilian and strategic infrastructure in the coastal area and along the Danube River.
Discussions within the North Atlantic Council have centered on how NATO can enhance monitoring and defense of its eastern flank, especially as the ongoing war in Ukraine continues to pose security risks for Allied nations near the conflict.
