History and independence behind state symbols

The state symbols of the Republic of Moldova are more than just official insignia; they represent the nation's identity and continuity. According to state herald Silviu Tabac, the coat of arms, flag, and anthem reflect the country's history, dignity, and the struggle for independence. He emphasizes that any changes to these symbols should be approached with the highest degree of responsibility.
A coat of arms, once established, typically remains unchanged until the death of the bearer’s lineage, passing from generation to generation. Changes to coats of arms occur only in extraordinary situations—such as significant advancements in rank, heroic family deeds, or the acquisition of new territories in the case of states," the heraldist explained during the show "Bună Dimineața" on Moldova 1.
The coat of arms, flag, and anthem are fundamental symbols of the state.
"These symbols signify our existence on the world stage and our place on the global map. Respect for these symbols is a testament to the genuine existence of our country and others. Without them, I believe we would struggle to be recognised," Silviu Tabac stated.
When asked about the potential to change the anthem through a referendum, Tabac said he preferred to remain neutral. Personally, he feels that both "Wake Up, Romanian" and "Our Language" fulfil the essential criteria for a national anthem.
"The first anthem was ideal because it represents all Romanians and encapsulates our fight for national independence from the very start. 'Our Language' resonates more with Romanians in Bassarabia, as it embodies their struggle to uphold Romanian values during their liberation from the Russian Empire in 1918. Both anthems hold value. However, determining which one represents us better is challenging. I will likely take an impartial stance to see what the Public Opinion Barometer reflects," said Tabac.
Citizens should show special respect for state symbols, as they represent a long history filled with struggles for independence and national dignity, the specialist said.
