Daniela Morari: Early EU accession chapters under greater scrutiny

This week is pivotal for the European path of the Republic of Moldova. Next Tuesday, June 16, in Luxembourg, the member states of the European Union (EU) will decide whether to officially open cluster negotiations with our country. This historic decision will be announced during the General Affairs Council meeting. Moldova's Ambassador to the EU, Daniela Morari, has outlined the next steps for our country and emphasized that the initial chapters opened will be subject to more rigorous monitoring by Brussels.

According to the head of our diplomatic mission in Brussels, the first cluster is considered the foundation of the entire integration process.

"The first cluster, which concerns fundamental rights, is the first to open. Since this cluster encompasses aspects related to the rule of law, administrative reform, human rights, the justice sector, and the functioning of democratic institutions, it is also the last to close. This means it is closely monitored by European institutions, the European Commission, and member states, as all elements within this cluster are crucial," stated Daniela Morari.

Additionally, on June 22, the second bilateral summit between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union will occur in Brussels, during which new avenues for sectoral and economic cooperation will be explored.

"Having such a meeting demonstrates the significance the European Union places on the Republic of Moldova in a political context. While the accession dimension will be a central topic of discussion, we will also address other areas of sectoral cooperation to identify how we can advance and what new opportunities may arise within the framework of gradual accession," said Moldovan Ambassador to the EU, Daniela Morari.

Recently, during a visit to the Republic of Moldova, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos mentioned in an interview with Radio Moldova that our country is ready to begin EU accession negotiations on the first group of chapters. These negotiations are expected to commence in mid-June.
