Chisinau pottery workshop teaches clay crafting

Clay modeling enhances coordination, patience, and attention to detail. Working directly with the material allows participants to grasp the process of creating ceramic objects. In Chișinău, a pottery workshop organized by the Academy of Music, Theater, and Plastic Arts provides the public with the opportunity to learn basic techniques from experienced teachers and students.
The Potter's Wheel pottery workshop welcomes both children and adults eager to explore the process of transforming clay into useful or decorative objects.
Coordinated by teachers and students from the Fine Arts Department of the Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts, the workshop guides participants through each stage of pottery-making.
Elena Frunză, the workshop coordinator, emphasizes that the activity plays a significant role in the practical training of students.
"All the students from the department participate, as this allows them to gain valuable experience interacting with various participants. It's an exchange of knowledge between students, teachers, and anyone interested in trying something new. In pottery, those who want to create can work alongside a teacher or a student who is already familiar with the process. They can attempt to make a vessel, center it, raise its walls, and shape it according to their imagination, whether rounder or straighter. It’s an emotional experience," Elena Frunză shared on the "Zi de Zi" show on Radio Moldova.
In addition to guiding participants, the students are responsible for preparing the necessary materials for the practical activities.
"In this workshop, we organize masterclasses called 'Potter's Wheel.' Children come in, and if they want to create something personal, we assist them in modelling their ideas. We prepare the clay for them,” Elena noted.
For first-time participants, the experience provides a chance to engage directly in the modelling process and create their own pieces.
"I did pottery for the first time, and it was a very enjoyable experience. The process is fun and quite interesting. Yes, I had some emotions, but overall, it wasn’t very difficult. I made a fantastic carnivorous plant with a tongue, and I want to use it in my room as a holder for jewellery and other figurines,” said one participant.
The workshop enables participants to understand the basic stages of pottery-making while creating personalized objects with the help of specialists and students. Additionally, it contributes to the practical training of future visual artists, who enhance their skills in public interaction and coordination of creative activities.
