“Guguță Century” street show celebrates Soroca’s beloved children’s hero
The character created by Spiridon Vangheli continues to bring together entire generations through a single narrative. In Soroca, dozens of children, parents, and artists participated in the street show "Guguță Century," an event dedicated to the most beloved hero of children's literature and the legacy left by the esteemed writer.

Participants dressed in costumes inspired by the beloved character Guguță, complete with his famous hats, brought "Guguță's band" to life. They transformed the streets of Soroca into a true fairytale land. The parade began at the Soroca Fortress and made its way to "Mihai Eminescu" Park, where cultural events honoring the work and literary legacy of Spiridon Vangheli continued.

The children performed songs, recited poems, and brought attention back to the beloved characters that have made children's literature famous. Through creative activities, games, and good cheer, the participants demonstrated that Spiridon Vangheli's messages remain relevant today.
"I came to 'Guguță Century' because I enjoy his stories."
"I brought a book featuring Guguță, and I'm dressed like him. I like to be like him."
"I came to participate in a story by Spiridon Vangheli, and we performed a beautiful dance."
"In Guguță's school, I'm in drawing class, and I'm drawing how Guguță was sledding."

The event aims to preserve the literary legacy of the writer Spiridon Vangheli.
"We came with the children to promote art and beauty. We are here at 'Guguță Century' and we want Spiridon Vangheli to remain in the hearts of children forever, instilling a love for literature from a young age."
"This street show has reached its fifth edition, and we are delighted that each year it features new bands. This year, I must highlight the presence of the Hasnaș fanfare from Hăsnășenii Noi, led by Andrei Arhire. We also have 'Licuricii,' a band from Florești, as well as preschool institutions from the municipality. Painters are drawing, singers are performing, dancers are dancing—it's a vibrant celebration, just like in Guguță's kingdom,” said writer and organizer Petre Popa.
The Soroca event showcased how the character created by Spiridon Vangheli continues to convey values and bridge generations.
