Trump urges Russia-Ukraine deal citing massive combat losses

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump discussed strategic defense co-production and peace prospects at the G7 summit in Évian, France. The bilateral talks focused on securing manufacturing licenses for anti-ballistic missiles to bolster Ukraine's long-term air defense capabilities.
Zelenskyy noted that G7 leaders unanimously agreed Russia is not winning the conflict. To achieve a sustainable resolution, the Ukrainian administration aims to produce advanced missile systems locally, addressing production bottlenecks currently faced by the United States.
The Ukrainian president emphasized that air defense remains a top priority for the entire G7 bloc. While specific technical details remain classified, member states pledged coordinated assistance to strengthen Ukraine's airspace protection.
US stance on peace negotiations
President Trump pressed for an immediate diplomatic settlement, highlighting the staggering human cost of the war. He stated that both Moscow and Kyiv have suffered devastating casualties, estimating that approximately 25,000 young men die each month.
Trump clarified that current US involvement is primarily limited to weapon deliveries funded by the European Union. However, the American president committed to utilizing his diplomatic leverage to broker a swift end to the hostilities.
