Moldovan diplomacy reshuffled: New ambassadors and a state secretary appointed

On June 17, the Cabinet of Ministers convened and approved several changes in the diplomatic corps of the Republic of Moldova. This included the appointment of a new Secretary of State at the Ministry of Justice, as well as a new head for the Chisinau Territorial Office of the State Chancellery.

The proposals for changes to the diplomatic service were presented by Mihai Popșoi, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. As a result, the Government approved the recall of Daniela Cujbă from her position as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Moldova to the Council of Europe.

During this occasion, the head of Moldovan diplomacy expressed gratitude to her for her work and her contribution to the Republic of Moldova's presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.

Simultaneously, the Executive appointed Victor Lapușneanu as the new Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Moldova to the Council of Europe.

In addition, the Government approved the appointment of Inga Ionesii as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Moldova to India.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Ukraine, Victor Chirilă, was also designated to serve, by cumulation, as Ambassador to Armenia, based in Kiev.

Another decision focused on strengthening the consular network, with Alexei Țurcan approved as Consul General of the Republic of Moldova in Odessa, Ukraine.

The meeting's agenda also included a proposal to appoint a new Secretary of State at the Ministry of Justice. This proposal, presented by the Minister of Justice, Vladislav Cojuhari, sought support for Mihai Gheorghieș's candidacy.

"Through this appointment, the Ministry of Justice gains a leader dedicated to excellence, who will responsibly ensure our efforts to develop coherent normative acts that meet the real needs of society," the Minister declared.

Additionally, during the meeting on June 17, the Secretary General of the Government, Alexei Buzu, presented a proposal to appoint Elena Buga as Head of the Chișinău Territorial Office of the State Chancellery and as the Government's representative in the territory, effective June 22, 2026.
