Direct flights from Chișinău to Saudi Arabia
The Republic of Moldova may soon have direct flights from Chisinau to destinations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. On June 17, the government approved the start of negotiations for an agreement to facilitate this.
According to Angela Țurcanu, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, signing the agreement will enhance air connectivity in the Republic of Moldova. This improvement is expected to boost passenger traffic, facilitate trade and tourism, promote exports, and strengthen both economic and diplomatic relations.
"We continue to expand the network of direct flights from Chișinău Airport to new destinations with significant potential for mobility, tourism, and economic exchanges. Through this agreement, we are establishing a necessary legal framework for cooperation in air transport between our two countries," Angela Țurcanu stated during the government meeting.
The Republic of Moldova is among the countries experiencing the highest increases in passenger air traffic in Europe in 2025. According to a report published by ACI EUROPE, passenger traffic at the airport in Moldova rose by 46.8% compared to the previous year, more than ten times the European average of 4.4%.
In 2025, "Eugen Doga" International Airport in Chișinău recorded over 6 million passengers. This figure exceeds the forecast set at the beginning of the year by 6.8%.
The airport administration has announced plans to transform the airport in Moldova into a "dynamic regional hub" by expanding its destination network, increasing flight frequencies, developing tourism, and strengthening collaboration with international air operators.
