State Tax Service aligns taxi sector with national payroll laws

The State Tax Service (SFS) has announced a major regulatory overhaul for the commercial transportation sector. Effective July 1, 2026, employed taxi drivers in Moldova will transition to the standard national payroll taxation system.

This structural adjustment follows the complete abolition of the preferential tax regime previously granted to this category of workers. June 2026 marks the final fiscal period operating under the legacy framework.

Consequently, transportation operators must calculate, file, and remit all employment taxes under universal fiscal regulations starting next month. This alignment integrates taxi driver compensation into the standard national tax brackets.

The SFS specified that the final TAXI18 fiscal declaration for June had a submission deadline of May 25, 2026. Therefore, employers face no new filing requirements for the current month.

An exception applies only to operators who hire new drivers before the end of June. These companies must file supplementary declarations to ensure compliance before the full transition takes effect.
