Igor Grosu: The EU civilian mission will provide consultancy to the Chisinau authorities in security field

The civilian mission of the European Union to be deployed in the Republic of Moldova will provide consultancy to the authorities in Chisinau in the field of security, which is very necessary in the context of persistent threats at the country's borders. The statement was made by the Parliament Speaker, Igor Grosu, during the show "La 360 de grade" on our radio station. According to the official, the mission will work within the security HUB that was established last year in the Republic of Moldova.

Igor Grosu said that the authorities of the Republic of Moldova managed to convince the European partners to invest in the country's security capabilities, so that illegal actions at the border are anticipated and prevented.

"We have 1,200 kilometers of border with Ukraine. Of course when there is a cataclysm, there are also bad guys who use this possibility to smuggle something and so on at the border. We want this physical HUB to be created here in the Republic of Moldova, the member countries of the European Union to post their representatives, to be here permanently, to be in contact with our authorities. When a situation arises, they should be the ones to contact the Ministry of the Interior at home, to say that such a name or such a situation appeared, whether the information is confirmed or not. This helps us to become more credible in relation to our European partners, to the European Union, because yes, the Republic of Moldova treats border security issues very seriously", said Igor Grosu.

The German publication "Die Welt" recently reported on the European Union's intention to send a social mission to the Republic of Moldova. According to the cited source, the diplomats expect the new mission to begin its work this summer.

In addition, the European Union wants to send experts to advise the authorities in Chisinau in the fight against cyber attacks and disinformation. We remind you that the Security Hub of the European Union in the Republic of Moldova was created on July 11, 2022 in Prague, where the first meeting was held.

According to the authorities, during half a year of the existence of the Hub, the Republic of Moldova approved the first national Concept of the focal point for firearms, arrested 12 criminals. At the same time, data exchange with Europol increased by over 25 percent.
