Enrollment surges by 15% as Moldova boosts dual education funding

The Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of Moldova will provide 12,282 state-funded seats across vocational institutes, colleges, and centers of excellence for the upcoming academic year. The decision aligns with a strategic expansion of the national dual vocational education framework, which received an additional 500 slots compared to the previous cycle.

This institutional expansion directly responds to an unprecedented surge in domestic macroeconomic demand. An increasing number of lower secondary school graduates are opting to bypass traditional high schools in favor of immediate technical specialization.

Soroca vocational school case study

The Soroca Vocational School expects to enroll approximately 100 new students for the upcoming term. The specialized regional facility offers comprehensive qualification tracks in four high-demand sectors: culinary arts, food quality control, computer technical support, and industrial garment manufacturing.

Local educators emphasize that modern infrastructure remains critical for driving student performance. Garment manufacturing instructor Elena Afanasii noted that the institution couples rigorous theoretical coursework with two training workshops equipped with advanced industrial machinery.

Practical specialization and student incentives

To optimize technical proficiency, the institution operates modern laboratories designed to replicate active corporate environments. Information technology instructor Ion Costin confirmed that the specialized computer maintenance lab allows students to master hardware assembly, system configurations, and routine operating system management.

Beyond technical infrastructure, the state framework leverages robust social incentives to maintain high retention rates. Soroca Vocational School Director Ivan Luța stated that all enrolled students receive monthly state stipends, fully subsidized dormitory housing, and complimentary daily meals.

National enrollment metrics rise

Out of the 12,282 total state-funded seats allocated nationwide, more than 2,500 slots are exclusively reserved for the dual education system. This system bridges the gap between academic instruction and corporate workforce requirements through structured weekly apprenticeships.

The official national enrollment process is scheduled to launch on July 20. To ensure administrative transparency and accessibility, the Ministry confirmed that the entire application campaign will take place through a fully digitized online platform.

Preliminary data from the Ministry of Education and Research confirms a sustained upward trajectory for technical education. During the 2025–2026 academic year, secondary vocational enrollments surpassed 8,000 students, marking a significant 15% increase compared to the previous annual cycle.
