Moldova boosts student funding to bolster academic excellence

The Moldovan government announced a 40% increase in undergraduate scholarships starting September 1. This measure, approved on July 1, targets critical sectors including education, medicine, agriculture, and STEAM disciplines.
Medical students will receive the highest support, with monthly stipends reaching up to 4,565 MDL (€233). Students in STEAM fields will benefit from grants up to 2,855 MDL (€146), while agricultural students will receive up to 2,280 MDL (€116).
Education Minister Dan Perciun stated that the initiative aims to retain local talent within the country’s universities. The policy also raises academic performance requirements, setting a minimum GPA of 7.0 for general scholarships and 8.5 for top-tier awards.
The government’s "Study in Moldova" initiative coincides with a record-breaking year for secondary education. Preliminary data shows a 90% pass rate among high school graduates, with 85 students achieving perfect marks across all Baccalaureate examinations.
