Former finance minister tipped to lead critical Moldovan committee

Moldova's parliamentary permanent bureau has nominated lawmaker Victoria Belous to chair the Committee for Economy, Budget, and Finance. The legislature will examine and vote on the draft resolution during its plenary session on Thursday, July 2.
Parliament Vice Speaker Doina Gherman confirmed the institutional decision through an official social media statement. Gherman noted that the governing Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) lawmaker is set to transition into the leadership role upon securing the mandatory legislative majority.
If confirmed by the plenary vote, Belous will assume control of one of the parliament's most influential permanent oversight bodies.
Institutional transition and oversight
Belous currently serves as the vice chair of the economic committee. She previously held the position of Minister of Finance within the PAS administration led by Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
The leadership vacancy occurred following the sudden resignation of former committee chair Radu Marian on June 29.
Marian stepped down amid a developing political scandal involving alleged salary mismanagement and unauthorized public appointments at the state-owned airspace security agency, Moldatsa.
Administrative reforms
The former committee chairman stated he resigned to protect the political image of the ruling party. Marian emphasized his intention to focus entirely on supporting Moldova's ongoing European Union integration framework.
The National Anticorruption Center continues to investigate the administrative irregularities within the state enterprise network.
The upcoming parliamentary ballot aligns with broader government commitments to reinforce anti-corruption metrics and stabilize corporate governance models across critical public utilities.
