VIDEO | Strășeni showcases over 100 rare musical instruments

The "Vatra Cobzarului" house-museum, located in the Straseni district and overseen by maestro Tudor Ungureanu, serves as a significant venue for preserving and promoting musical and cultural heritage. This unique museum complex houses a collection of over 100 rare musical instruments from various regions of the world, all of which are restored and showcased.

The museum's collection was formed over decades and includes musical instruments from diverse cultural traditions: kavals, lutes, cymbals, Italian and Romanian mandolins, Indian sitars, rebabs, and Central Asian domras, as well as instruments from the Middle East and the Caucasus.

Many of these have been painstakingly recovered and restored so they can still emit sound.

Tudor Ungureanu says that, for him, it is a source of pride to own such a musical heritage.

"I have collected the oldest instruments on which the Lord was sung and glorified in the Bible, the Holy Book", says the maestro, in a report broadcast on Moldova 1.

In his view, these instruments are not mere collector's items but bearers of history, faith and cultural identity that connect generations and geographical spaces.

In addition to musical instruments, the museum houses a valuable collection of traditional objects, including hand-woven carpets, embroidered towels, tablecloths over a century old, and other authentic pieces of folk art.

The maestro emphasizes the importance of keeping this space open to the public and integrating it into the tourist circuit. He states:

"It would be beneficial for more people to have access. When tourists come to our country, they should be able to see and listen to the instruments—we don't just display them; we also play them."

As a result, a visit to the "Vatra Cobzarului" becomes an interactive experience where visitors not only observe the exhibits but also engage with them through sound and storytelling.

The "Vatra Cobzarului" House-Museum attracts both foreign tourists and locals and is highly regarded as a venue for promoting Romania's traditional culture and musical identity.
