Court orders 30 day pre trial detention for state secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture
On July 4, the Chișinău Court based in Ciocana granted prosecutors' request in full and ordered a 30 day pre trial detention for Tatiana Nistorică, State Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, in her absence. On the same day, the business representative was placed in pre trial detention for 20 days.
We remind you that on Thursday, July 2, Tatiana Nistorică, State Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, was detained by officers of the National Anticorruption Center in a corruption case.
According to investigators, she allegedly accepted money from a representative of a private company in exchange for using her influence over decision makers at the National Food Safety Agency to resume the authorization of poultry and animal feed imports from Ukraine. The imports had previously been suspended after authorities identified irregularities.
The representative of the company involved was also detained in the same case. Investigators carried out searches at the official's office and several other locations.
Following these developments, Acting Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Ludmila Catlabuga announced that she would initiate the procedure to dismiss Tatiana Nistorică after the investigative actions carried out by the National Anticorruption Center and the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office in the corruption case.
In a public statement, the acting minister condemned all forms of corruption and said that the ministry would fully cooperate with the investigating authorities.
