Zelenskyy sees real peace prospect after call with Trump

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that a tangible prospect for concluding the war has emerged following a strategic phone call with Donald Trump. The Ukrainian leader emphasized that American decisiveness remains critical for achieving a sustainable peace settlement.
The diplomatic exchange occurred as Zelenskyy congratulated Trump on the 250th anniversary of United States independence. During the conversation, both leaders agreed to advance their face-to-face discussions at the upcoming NATO summit in Ankara.
Diplomatic maneuvers and military claims
Russian President Vladimir Putin also initiated a 90-minute phone call with Trump under the same anniversary pretext. According to Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov, Putin highlighted Russia's historical contributions to early American statehood while focusing heavily on the current conflict.
Ushakov noted that Trump reiterated his readiness to facilitate a cessation of hostilities. However, the Kremlin concurrently sought to project military dominance during the briefing.
Contested battlefield developments
The Russian administration asserted that its forces are maintaining a steady advance in eastern Ukraine, specifically claiming control over Konstantinovka. The fortified town represents a critical logistical hub in northern Donetsk.
Ukrainian defense authorities have firmly contested the claim, maintaining that their forces retain control of the city. No independent verification of the territorial shift has been provided by international observers.
