EP vote sends strong signal for Moldova's European path

The vote in the European Parliament (EP) and the call to promptly open all negotiation clusters with the Republic of Moldova signal confidence in the country's efforts to build a European state. This statement was made by interim Prime Minister Eugeniu Oscmochescu, who emphasized that advancing the accession negotiations will strengthen state institutions, enhance security, promote economic development, and improve living standards for citizens.
The European Parliament adopted, on July 8, by a large majority, the annual report on the progress made by the Republic of Moldova in the process of accession to the European Union.
The European legislative forum welcomed the reforms carried out by the authorities in Chisinau and called on the member states to open all negotiation clusters without delay, in accordance with the principle of meritocracy.
Eugeniu Oscmochescu: An important political signal
“The decision represents an important political signal for the Republic of Moldova and offers concrete prospects for deepening relations with the European Union”, declared the interim Prime Minister, Eugeniu Oscmochescu.
The Head of Government said, in a comment published on his Facebook page, that by approaching the European Union, the Republic of Moldova benefits from increased opportunities for attracting investments, modernizing the infrastructure, developing the business environment, creating new jobs and wider access to European funding and cooperation programs.
"Alignment with European standards supports the consolidation of the rule of law, the fight against corruption and the increase of the resilience of public institutions. Through this position, the European Parliament reaffirms that the European future of the Republic of Moldova represents a strategic priority. A safe, stable and integrated Republic of Moldova in the European Union constitutes an advantage both for its citizens and for the security and stability of the entire European continent", said Eugeniu Osmochescu.
Cristina Gherasimov: EP report confirms the results of the reforms
The Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gherasimov, also highlighted the strong message of support sent by the vote in Strasbourg, which, according to the official, welcomes the progress made in the negotiation process and confirms that the reforms of recent years are already producing concrete results in the daily lives of citizens.
Cristina Gherasimov points out that the European Parliament report reaffirms that the accession of the Republic of Moldova must advance on its own merits and that the enlargement policy represents a strategic investment in Europe's security. At the same time, she appreciates the opening of the accession negotiations, the pace of the screening process and the approximation of national legislation to that of the European Union.
The voted document also firmly condemns hybrid attacks and attempts by the Russian Federation to undermine democratic institutions and the European path of the Republic of Moldova and encourages the opening of all negotiation clusters, as well as the continuation of the political, technical and financial support offered by the European Union.
"We thank the MEPs for the trust and constant support they give to our country and citizens. We continue to work here, at home, with the same determination, to prepare the Republic of Moldova to become a member state of the European Union", Cristina Gherasimov wrote on social networks.
The Deputy Prime Minister states that MEPs encourage the authorities to maintain the pace of reforms, so that the accession negotiations can be provisionally closed by the beginning of 2028, and the objective of accession to the European Union in 2030 becomes a reality.
Alexei Buzu: EU accession remains the strategic objective of the Republic of Moldova
The Secretary General of the Government, Alexei Buzu, thanked the European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, for the firm message of support addressed to the Republic of Moldova in the European Parliament. He reiterated that accession to the European Union remains the strategic objective of the Republic of Moldova.
“This message confirms that our efforts are seen, appreciated and supported at the European level. At the same time, it is a clear call to continue reforms, to maintain the pace and to prepare the Republic of Moldova for the next stage of European integration. We continue to work here, at home, with responsibility and determination, so that the Republic of Moldova becomes part of the European family”, stated the Secretary General of the Government.
