The Republic of Moldova has implemented 35 transport-related legal acts provided for in the Association Agreement with the EU
The Republic of Moldova has transposed 35 of the 65 transport-related legal acts provided for in the Association Agreement with the European Union. However, the air transport situation is still complex, especially after the withdrawal of Wizz Air from our country. This was discussed at the public hearings on the progress of the implementation of the Association Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union, organised by the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy and European Integration.

Sergiu Lazarenco, member of the Committee on Economy, Budget and Finance, pointed out that it was necessary to accelerate the pace of implementation of the provisions of the Association Agreement and the recommendations of the European Commission in order to launch accession negotiations.
"We are moving fast because we have to start negotiations. If we start the negotiations, it will open a big door to pre-accession funds that will benefit the Ministry of Infrastructure, because it is a current issue. In air transport, out of 65 acts, 35 have been transposed. At the same time, the situation in this area is complicated after the departure of the Hungarian operator. I want to understand what the ministry is doing so that we are not an isolated country and our citizens can continue to benefit from flights to EU countries."
Speaking about the air transport situation, in particular after the withdrawal of Wizz Air from our country, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Lilia Dabija said that Moldova's airspace is safe and she will start discussions with other operators that could come to our country.
"We were also puzzled by their decision, we presented them with updated reports, which show that our airspace is safe. They maintain their position, which we regret, but we hope they will reconsider later. We are in early discussions with other operators."
Mircea Păscăluță, state secretary for transport at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, stressed that the Republic of Moldova had transposed all European Union provisions on flight safety and security.
"Legislative aspects have not influenced and do not influence the arrival or withdrawal of certain operators. We are puzzled by WizzAir's decision. As far as air security is concerned, there are mechanisms in place between the Ministry of Defence and the Civil Aviation Authority to ensure that all security risks are adequately addressed. Other air operators have not indicated their intention to leave the market. One impediment is the charges levied on air operators".
During the public hearings organised by the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy and European Integration, the implementation of the provisions of the Association Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union and the areas of infrastructure, energy and roads were also discussed.
