Sheriff Tiraspol claims derby win as league heats up
Sheriff Tiraspol secured a dominant 4-2 victory over rivals Zimbru Chisinau in the third round of the Moldovan Super Liga.
The hosts established their lead early in "El Clasico de Moldova," with Jayder Asprilla opening the scoring after 15 minutes. Vitor Oliveira doubled the advantage shortly after. Zimbru pulled one back through Matteo Amoroso before halftime.
Sheriff extended their lead in the second half. Samba Kone scored in the 67th minute, and Asprilla completed his brace shortly after. Zimbru’s late push resulted only in an added-time goal from Nikolai Zolotov.
Dacia-Buiucani provided the shock of the round. The Chisinau side defeated Milsami Orhei 1-0 on the road, thanks to a decisive strike by Valeriu Gurgurov.
Elsewhere, defending champions Petrocub Hincesti drew 1-1 away at CSF Balti. Nicolae Rotaru gave the visitors the lead, but Vlad Costin equalized for the hosts.
In other action, Politehnica UTM Chisinau defeated newly promoted Real Sireti 2-1. The next round is scheduled for this weekend, highlighted by the clash between Petrocub Hincesti and Sheriff Tiraspol.
