The closed-door interviews begin at 13:00 at TRM headquarters. The candidate with the highest score above seven points on a ten-point scale will secure the non-renewable seven-year term.

Selection criteria and process

Board members will ask each applicant identical questions testing broadcasting expertise, national and EU media legislation, managerial strategy, critical thinking, and fluency in Romanian and English or French.

Candidates will also have 15 minutes to present a seven-year development plan for the public broadcaster.

Ecaterina Cheptanaru: A journalist and TV producer with over a decade of media experience. She managed documentary projects and served as TRM deputy director general from April to July 2025.

Background to the leadership vote

The Supervisory Board launched the contest on June 9 following the resignation of former director general Vlad Țurcanu on May 18.

Țurcanu stepped down amid public controversy regarding the national jury's composition and voting process in the Eurovision Song Contest. He continues to perform executive duties until a successor takes office.
