Romanian fighter jet downs drone near border

Romanian Air Force F-16 jets intercepted and shot down an unidentified drone over national airspace on Saturday morning, July 25.

The target was detected by military radar at 8:22 AM entering Romanian airspace. It was neutralized minutes later near the Danube Delta.

President Nicușor Dan confirmed the engagement took place 10 kilometers west of Sfântu Gheorghe in an uninhabited area.

Defense Minister Radu Miruță stated that the F-16 fighter jet executed standard interception protocols to safely neutralize the threat.

Military specialists have been deployed to the crash site to retrieve debris and conduct a formal investigation. The incident marks the second interception in 24 hours, following a similar Shahed-type drone downing over Buzău County on July 24.
