Chișinău couple injured as grenade kept for two years explodes

A married couple, aged 27 and 36, were hospitalized in Chișinău's Botanica district on Saturday after a grenade they had kept in their apartment for two years exploded. Police said both suffered various injuries in the blast, which occurred around 9:50 a.m.
The man told police he had found the grenade two years earlier and decided to keep it. On Saturday, while the couple were tidying the apartment, he came across the device again — it detonated the moment he touched it.
Police are investigating the incident, and the full circumstances have yet to be established.
Specialists advise that anyone who finds a grenade or other object that looks like unexploded ordnance should not touch it, attempt to move it, or bring it home under any circumstances. Only explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) specialists can safely remove and neutralize such devices.
