Diesel surges in Moldova as energy alert limits fuel reserves
Moldovan drivers face higher fuel costs starting August 4, as diesel prices move closer to record highs while gasoline registers a minor decline.
According to the latest price caps set by the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE), diesel rises by 0.28 MDL to reach €1.67 (approx. 32.82 MDL) per liter. Meanwhile, gasoline eases by two bani to €1.57 (approx. 30.75 MDL) per liter.
Market pressures drive monthly increase
Over the past month, diesel prices in Moldova have surged by nearly €0.41 (approx. 8 MDL) per liter, while gasoline has gained roughly €0.15 (approx. 3 MDL).
Regulators attribute the persistent upward trajectory to rising international petroleum benchmarks, fueled by Middle East geopolitical risks and foreign exchange fluctuations.
Energy alert active as reserves stay tight
In response to heightened supply risks, the Moldovan government declared a state of alert in the energy and hydrological sectors late last month.
Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu stated that national fuel stocks have shown slight improvement, though supply conditions remain volatile. National reserves currently cover up to nine days of diesel consumption and 15 days for gasoline.
