High blackout risk in Moldova during peak hours
Moldova faces an elevated risk of power outages today, August 6. Prime Minister Vasile Tofan has urged citizens to drastically reduce electricity consumption, particularly during the critical 19:00 to 23:00 window.
Tofan warned that avoiding peak-hour usage for heavy household appliances—such as washing machines, electric ovens, and air conditioners—is vital.
"By doing this, we can avoid high bills, because the emergency power we are purchasing is very expensive," he stated during a press briefing.
Commercial lighting criticized
The Prime Minister also directed his appeal at the business sector, demanding an immediate reduction in decorative and street lighting. He criticized the excessive nighttime illumination in the capital, Chișinău.
"I was walking through Chișinău and it looked like a nightclub. We must show common sense," Tofan said. "We need to turn off unnecessary lighting; I had the impression everything was lit up like Las Vegas."
Deficit exceeds previous days
The head of the Executive confirmed that rolling blackouts remain a distinct possibility throughout the day. The energy system is expected to face its highest strain between 20:00 and 22:00.
While Tofan did not specify the exact volume of the energy shortfall, he noted the deficit is significantly larger than the one recorded on August 5.
