Tofan after Crocmaz drone incident: “Being outside the war zone does not protect us”

Prime Minister Vasile Tofan responded to an incident in which a drone struck near the village of Crocmaz in the Ștefan Vodă district. He reported that the drone collided with a tree, causing the windows of a nearby house to shatter, with the damage occurring just 8 centimeters from the structure. Fortunately, there were no casualties. The wildfire that ignited from the impact was swiftly extinguished by emergency services. The Prime Minister emphasized that this incident highlights the reality that the Republic of Moldova is not immune to the repercussions of the ongoing war in the region.
"A drone struck a tree, which is fortunate since it could have hit a house. However, we experienced damage just 8 centimeters away from a home. Being outside the war zone unfortunately does not guarantee our safety," the Prime Minister stated.
Tofan expressed gratitude to the emergency services for their swift response, confirming that there were no casualties resulting from the incident.
"There was a fire, but fortunately, there were no victims. The fire was extinguished very quickly. I thank our police officers and the emergency services for their rapid action in locating and addressing the fire," the Prime Minister added.
When asked about the possibility of summoning the ambassador, Tofan mentioned that the authorities would take the necessary measures but did not provide additional details.
The Prime Minister also commented on the significant attack on Odessa that occurred the same day, labeling it an act of barbarity.
"This was the most powerful attack on Odessa. The city has long been a target of brutal assaults, but this attack is even more intense. They are striking civilian structures and homes without any restraint. It is sheer barbarism," Vasile Tofan concluded.
On the morning of August 9, a powerful explosion occurred in the locality of Crocmaz, Ștefan Vodă district. Following the explosion, there was also a vegetation fire. The Police of the Republic of Moldova reported that all specialized forces were mobilized and sent to the scene to determine the circumstances and cause of the explosion.
