Six investigated in Italy over fatal failure to assist worker
Italian prosecutors in Padua have placed six people under investigation following the death of a 35-year-old Moldovan national who collapsed on a construction site on August 4.
The Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed it is monitoring the case through its consulate in Padua.
Unregistered work and delayed emergency call
Investigators report that the man had arrived in Italy just a day before the tragedy and had begun working without a legal contract.
Around 2:00 PM on August 4, the worker collapsed on site amid extreme summer temperatures. Rather than calling emergency services immediately, colleagues transported him to a nearby residence on the employer's instructions.
As his condition worsened and he lost consciousness, the employer contacted two of the victim's relatives. The relatives arrived and attempted to transport him to a hospital in Padua by private car.
Medical intervention and legal consequences
During the journey, the relatives realized the man was unresponsive. They pulled into a parking lot in Saonara and called emergency services.
Carabinieri and medical crews arrived promptly and performed CPR for over 15 minutes, but were unable to revive him.
Preliminary autopsy results indicate the worker died of a heart attack, likely exacerbated by severe heat exposure.
Italian media reports suggest those present hesitated to call an ambulance immediately due to fears of legal repercussions regarding undocumented labor.
The Padua Prosecutor's Office has entered six individuals into the suspect register for failure to render aid, a charge aggravated by the victim's death. The investigation remains ongoing.
