Moldova may host the European Volleyball Championship
The collaboration between the Volleyball Federation of the Republic of Moldova and the European Volleyball Confederation is becoming more effective. Soon, our country will be able to host major competitions, a fact confirmed by Roko Sikiric, the president of the international forum.
Roko Sikiric, president of the European Volleyball Confederation, expressed a strong interest in bringing a European Championship to the Republic of Moldova. "The national federation is ready. We have various venues available, including beach and indoor options. I am very impressed with the beach arena. This could host tournaments for juniors or even seniors, but we will decide later. It's encouraging to see that we have an open dialogue with your country's leadership, who are eager to assist us", he stated during his visit to Chisinau, where he discussed future projects with the Volleyball Federation of the Republic of Moldova.
Sikiric highlighted the importance of flexibility in promoting volleyball across more countries, rather than focusing solely on established nations like Italy, Poland, or Turkey. "Indoor volleyball is a bit more complicated; all the hosting locations for 2028 are already established. However, we are optimistic about potentially hosting events in 2029. For beach volleyball, we could organize a tournament as soon as next year. If the Republic of Moldova hosts the European Championship, the European Volleyball Confederation will also provide financial support," explained Sergiu Predius, president of the Volleyball Federation of the Republic of Moldova.
This initiative prioritizes the development of volleyball for children and the training of coaches. "We are actively working on several projects, especially those aimed at training coaches. The Moldovan Federation is involved in Erasmus Plus for school projects, and we will continue to support these initiatives," Sikiric added.
"It is essential to bring quality volleyball to the Republic of Moldova through well-trained coaches and by encouraging players to help popularize the sport. We have a clear vision for supporting smaller federations," said Alexandru Stratan, vice president of the Volleyball Federation of the Republic of Moldova.
Another positive development for volleyball in the Republic of Moldova is the introduction of new tournaments in which Moldovan teams could participate. "We are revitalizing junior competitions. In addition to the European Championships, we plan to introduce a Junior League where teams from countries with fewer resources can compete. Despite the challenges, the competition will maintain a high level," Sikiric noted.
Recently, Moldova successfully hosted the Balkan Beach Volleyball Championship for youth under 22.
