Diaspora children learn about Guguță, theater, and traditions through "At Home in Chișinău"
A group of children from the diaspora embarked on an unforgettable imaginary journey through the theaters of Chisinau. They participated in a summer program organized by the Municipal Library "Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu". The children were impressed and eager to learn more about national traditions, prominent figures, and cultural values. This experience offered them a meaningful opportunity to connect with their country of origin.
"This is the first Guguță doll in Moldova. The author of this work of art is the painter Galina Molotov. It was made in 1989."
The director of the "Guguță" Theater, Gabriela Lungu, told the children about the performances, tours, as well as the conditions in which the actors of the puppet theater perform.
Children and adults arriving from the United States and Europe were deeply impressed by their experiences.
"I'm from America, and I really enjoyed the activity with the dolls. Do you know anything about Guguţă?" one participant asked. "No! But now I’m excited to learn."
The children, who were born in Canada, were eager to visit a library filled with information about Chișinău and its traditions, theater, and art.
"I am the grandmother of four grandchildren who are attending this camp. It is very important for them to learn everything related to their birthplace."
The “At Home in Chisinau” program was launched on Monday, featuring an excursion into the city’s history and urban heritage.
“We aim to connect with those who have returned home. The agenda includes visits to museums and a tourist bus tour of the city. This program has a noble goal: to encourage children from the diaspora to speak Romanian,” says Mariana Harjevschi, director of the “Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu” Library.
“I specifically appeal to parents: make an effort to provide your children with opportunities to connect with their roots. If we are unaware of where we come from and do not recognize our heritage, we risk not only fading as a nation but also losing our identities and individuality,” adds Gabriela Lungu, director of the “Guguță” Theater.
Now in its second edition, the "At Home in Chisinau" program for diaspora children will continue on Thursday and Friday, offering new educational and cultural experiences.
