Energocom procured 76% of gas for the new gas year
SA Energocom has successfully procured 76% of the gas required for the 2026-2027 gas year, which runs from October 1, 2026, to September 30, 2027. This purchase fully covers the anticipated consumption for the upcoming cold season. Specifically, the company acquired 3.83 million MWh of gas for the period from October 2026 to March 2027.
The company reports that the purchasing activities began in July. So far, a total of 24 tenders have been organized, with participation from 11 companies across Romania, Austria, Bulgaria, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Malta, Germany, and Greece. Out of these, 23 tenders have been successfully concluded.
“To ensure transparency and fairness in the procurement process, representatives from the Ministry of Energy, the Public Property Agency, the Prime Minister’s Office, the Intelligence and Security Service, as well as members of civil society, were invited to participate in all tenders”, Energocom states.
In addition to addressing current consumption needs, Energocom is also required to establish strategic reserves for the winter of 2026-2027. By November 1, 2026, the company must store approximately 134.5 million cubic meters of gas, which represents 15% of the forecasted annual consumption.
Some of this quantity has already been purchased and will be stored in Romania and Ukraine.
“Gas contracting is conducted in advance using forward products, which ensures the necessary volumes for the consumption months. The final price is not determined at the time of signing the contract; instead, it is calculated later based on a formula indexed to the TTF Front Month index, published by Argus Media, for the following month's delivery. Thus, the price is based on a publicly available European reference index that is verifiable and independent of the influence of the contracting parties,” Energocom explains.
All purchases were made in accordance with the strategy approved by the company’s Board of Directors and the procurement procedures sanctioned by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, as assured by Energocom.
