A bomb alert disrupted proceedings at the Centru Court of Appeal in Chisinau on Monday morning, August 24. The threat occurred shortly before judges were scheduled to begin hearing an appeal filed by Vlad Plahotniuc in the landmark bank fraud case.
The former Democratic Party leader is challenging a 19-year prison sentence handed down by a lower court.

Police cordons established
Specialized law enforcement units and bomb disposal experts deployed to the scene immediately following the alert.
Authorities cordoned off the courthouse and restricted all access to the building while security checks were carried out, public broadcaster Moldova 1 reported.
