Health ministry partners with Hospices of Hope for new centre
Moldova is set to establish a new specialised palliative care centre under a memorandum of understanding signed between the Ministry of Health and the charitable organisation Hospices of Hope Moldova.
Health Minister Alexandru Gasnaș and Hospices of Hope Moldova Executive Director Veronica Dragnev-Sacara formally concluded the agreement on August 25.
Inpatient care and specialized services
The 26-bed facility will allocate 20 inpatient beds to adults and six to children. It will provide dedicated end-of-life and supportive care, specifically addressing the needs of patients suffering from advanced-stage oncological diseases.
Minister Alexandru Gasnaș emphasized that advancing palliative care remains a national healthcare priority. He noted that modern hospice care integrates clinical treatment with psychological, emotional, and social support to ensure patient dignity and comfort.
Academic partnership and regional expertise
The facility will also serve as a clinical training hub. Medical students from the Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy will complete dedicated training modules in palliative medicine on site.
The initiative will leverage Hospices of Hope's broader regional experience across South East Europe, including its management of established inpatient facilities in Bucharest and Brașov, Romania. The British organisation has been active in Moldova since 2008, delivering community-based palliative care across Chișinău, Orhei, Soroca, and Bălți.
