Global GDP to pass $150T by 2030 as Asia rises
The global economy will surpass $150 trillion by 2030, driven largely by emerging markets across Asia, according to the latest International Monetary Fund (IMF) projections. Asia will anchor this expansion with an estimated $55 trillion output, followed by North America and Europe.
The world's largest economies in 2030
The world's top three national economies in 2030 are projected to match the 2026 rankings, according to the IMF World Economic Outlook.
The United States leads the ranking at $37.7 trillion, followed by China at $26 trillion and Germany at $6.2 trillion. Together, these three nations will add more than $10 trillion to global output between 2026 and 2030.
The race for third place remains razor-thin. Germany's projected GDP of $6.178 trillion leads India's $6.173 trillion by just $5 billion. India is poised to surpass Germany in nominal GDP if current expansion trends continue.
The rise of Asia and European dynamics
Asia and the Middle East will generate a combined $55.7 trillion by 2030, accounting for more than one-third of the global economy. Japan will rank as the region's third-largest economy at $5 trillion, followed by South Korea at $2.3 trillion and Indonesia at $2.1 trillion.
Europe's economy, valued at $37 trillion, will stand out for its balanced distribution across nations. While a single country generates over half of continental output in both North and South America, the European Union's 27 member states will reach a combined nominal GDP of $26.5 trillion, led by Germany, France, and Italy.
The United Kingdom will remain the largest non-EU European economy at $5.1 trillion, followed by Russia at $2.6 trillion.
Outlook for Moldova and Romania
The IMF also projects substantial gains for Eastern European economies. The Republic of Moldova is forecast to reach a GDP of $30.2 billion in 2030 and $32.9 billion in 2031.
Romania's economy currently stands at $480.8 billion and is projected to expand to $613.8 billion by 2030.
