Moldovan lawmakers open autumn session to debate budget revisions and EU alignment
Moldova’s parliament will convene on Thursday, September 3, for its first plenary sitting of the autumn session, where lawmakers are scheduled to examine 17 draft laws, including five aimed at aligning national legislation with European Union standards.
Agrifood and security priorities
During first-reading debates on Thursday, deputies will consider legislation regulating the agrifood sector, producer organisations, and interprofessional groups. The agenda also includes institutionalising the Defense General Staff, establishing inquiry protocols for transport accidents, and tightening market oversight for agricultural and forestry vehicles.
Lawmakers will also review regulatory updates on petroleum supply security and provisional licensing for grain and oilseed imports, alongside amendments governing industrial parks and the Constitutional Court.
Budget adjustments and social relief
On Friday, September 4, the legislature will review key fiscal measures, including revisions to the 2026 State Budget Law and exceptional one-off social welfare payments. Lawmakers will also examine adjustments to the state social insurance budget and the mandatory health insurance funds.
In second and third readings, parliament will debate the "Restart in Education" reform, gender equality in social security coverage, and expanded public participation in legislative decision-making. The assembly will also consider import duty exemptions for equipment under the "School Modernisation" project and the formal withdrawal from the Commonwealth of Independent States inter-library loan pact.
The plenary session on Thursday opens at 10:00 local time and will be broadcast live across parliament’s official communication channels.
