Moldovan lawmakers convene to advance EU reforms and exit CIS pact
Moldova’s Parliament will convene on Thursday, September 3, for its inaugural plenary sitting of the autumn legislative session. Lawmakers are scheduled to review 17 draft bills over two days, with five key proposals aimed at aligning national frameworks with European Union standards.
The sitting begins at 10:00 in Chișinău and will be streamed live via the institution’s official platforms.
Strategic reforms and European alignment
During the first reading, deputies will debate major economic and security initiatives. The legislative package prioritizes agricultural governance, introducing revised rules for producer organizations, inter-branch associations, and temporary licensing mechanisms for grain and oilseed imports.
National defense and regulatory oversight also anchor the opening agenda. Lawmakers will examine measures to formally institutionalize the General Staff of the Armed Forces, alongside legislation governing transportation accident investigations and market surveillance for agricultural machinery.
Energy security remains central to the opening deliberations. Parliament will introduce updated regulatory mechanisms to safeguard the country’s petroleum supply reserves, alongside legal amendments affecting the Constitutional Court and industrial enterprise zones.
Fiscal revisions and social policy
On Friday, September 4, discussions will shift toward national fiscal planning. The agenda includes targeted adjustments to the 2026 state budget, supplementary exceptional one-off payments, and amendments to both state social security and mandatory health insurance funds.
In subsequent readings, parliamentarians will vote on the "Restart in Education" reform package and statutory guarantees for gender equality in social welfare entitlements.
Deputies will also consider public decision-making transparency in its third reading, tax exemptions for goods serving school modernization programs, and the formal denunciation of an inter-library loan treaty established under the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
