President Maia Sandu meets the Secretary General of the International Organization of La Francophonie, Louise Mushikiwabo

On the eve of International Francophonie Day, the head of state had a meeting with the Secretary General of the International Organization of Francophonie (OIF), Louise Mushikiwabo, who was on a visit to Chisinau. The Republic of Moldova is one of the 88 member countries of the great OIF family - Francophonie represents a space of solidarity and cooperation of which we are a part.

"We have a long-term partnership with the Francophonie University Agency which, in 2022, opened a national office in Chisinau, and students from six universities have the opportunity to train as French language specialists. There are French-speaking bilingual classes in eight lyceums in the country, and from this year, the State University of Moldova started training future teachers for teaching mathematics, physics, biology in French, in bilingual classes. Civil servants can also study French within the program "Initiative francophone nationale", said the Moldovan president.

President Maia Sandu thanked the Secretary General for the OIF's support of the associative sector, but also for the linguistic training of the carabinieri from the Ministry of the Interior. "We count on the support of OIF in the fight against propaganda and disinformation. In the context, I mentioned that, recently, the Francophonie operator TV5Monde was included in the mandatory list of TV channels of cable media service distributors", said the Moldovan president.
