Border Police announce special measures at Chișinău Airport from September 14-17
Special measures to manage access and passenger flow were implemented at the "Eugen Doga" International Airport in Chișinău on Monday, September 14. These restrictions will remain in effect until September 17 because a large number of Hasidic pilgrims are returning from Ukraine to fly home.
The Border Police announced that terminal access is restricted until September 17. Only passengers, crew members, and airport staff may enter the building; accompanying individuals are not allowed.
Travelers may enter the airport no earlier than three hours before their scheduled departure time and must present their travel tickets upon entry.
Coach traffic and parking are limited to designated areas, as instructed by law enforcement and authorized personnel.
Authorities advise passengers to check their flight status in advance, have their documents ready for inspection, and comply with the instructions of authorized personnel.
These measures are being implemented jointly by the Border Police, "Eugen Doga" International Airport (Chisinau) administration, the Customs Service, the General Inspectorate of Carabinieri, the National Public Security Inspectorate, and the National Food Safety Agency.
According to the authorities, these measures are temporary and aim to ensure the safe management of the high volume of travelers.
The authorities are implementing measures as Hasidic pilgrims return from Ukraine, where they traveled through the Republic of Moldova to celebrate the Jewish New Year and visit the tomb of Rabbi Nachman in Uman.
In recent years, Chisinau Airport has become a key transit point for Hasidic pilgrims after the closure of Ukrainian airspace due to the outbreak of war in 2022. Pilgrims arrive in Chisinau from Israel, the United States, and various European countries, and then continue their journey to Uman by land.
After participating in the Jewish New Year observances held in Ukraine from September 11 to 13, the pilgrims return to the Republic of Moldova to fly back to their home countries, departing from Chisinau’s "Eugen Doga" International Airport.
