US has appointed Joseph Burkhalter as ambassador to Chisinau

The new United States Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Joseph Mark Burkhalter, was sworn in this week before U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The U.S. Embassy in Chișinău announced that the diplomat is expected to arrive in Moldova soon to begin his tenure.
"The U.S. Embassy in the Republic of Moldova looks forward to welcoming Ambassador-designate Burkhalter to Chisinau and working under his leadership to further strengthen the enduring relationship between the two countries", a message published by the U.S. diplomatic mission on its official Facebook page reads.
A native of Georgia, diplomat Joseph Mark Burkhalter was confirmed by the United States Senate as Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova in early August this year, following his nomination by the U.S. administration.
The last U.S. ambassador to serve a full term in Chișinău was Kent D. Logsdon, who held the position from December 2021 until the end of May 2024.
Upon the conclusion of his tenure, Kent D. Logsdon was awarded the "Order of Honor" by President Maia Sandu in recognition of his contribution to deepening relations between the Republic of Moldova and the United States.
Since August 2025, Nick Pietrowicz has served as Chargé d'Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Chișinău.
