Moldova's security is jeopardized by Russia's war in Ukraine, MFA
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) condemns the incident on September 18 near the village of Colonița, where components of a turbojet-powered drone were found after an explosion.
Chisinau’s diplomatic authorities firmly condemn the unauthorized entry into national airspace and emphasize that the attack is a direct consequence of the Russian Federation’s war of aggression against Ukraine, which continues to directly jeopardize the security of the Republic of Moldova and its citizens.
"The effects of Russian attacks on Ukraine do not stop at its borders. Any unauthorized entry into the Republic of Moldova’s airspace is unacceptable and constitutes a grave violation of our country’s sovereignty," reads the official statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Authorities in Chisinau have issued a stern new message to Moscow, demanding an immediate halt to attacks that threaten human lives and destabilize the region.
"The Republic of Moldova firmly condemns the Russian Federation’s war of aggression against Ukraine and reiterates its call for Russia to cease actions that endanger human lives and the security of states in the region," the Ministry stated.
Residents of villages surrounding Chișinău were awakened at 4:20 a.m. on Friday by an explosion. Surveillance cameras also captured the incident.
Later that afternoon, police reported that the explosion occurred on a plot of land near the village of Colonița, in the Chișinău municipality, where fragments possibly belonging to a drone were found.
Subsequent investigations led to the recovery of several components—including the aircraft's engine—scattered within a radius of approximately 100 meters from the blast site.
Images from the scene show that the aircraft crashed into a sunflower field where the crop had already been harvested.
On September 16, the Republic of Moldova condemned—at the OSCE—repeated violations of its national airspace caused by drones and called on the Russian Federation to cease actions that destabilize the region.
The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Moldova to the OSCE, Ambassador Victoria Roșa, made the statement.
In her address at the 1145th meeting of the Forum for Security Co-operation, Ambassador Victoria Roșa highlighted the incidents of September 8, 12, and 14, noting their increasing alarm due to their frequency, cross-border trajectories, and the risks they pose to the population and civil aviation.
