Iași launches €113m tender for crown-shaped sports arena
Iași municipal authorities have launched a 596 million RON (€113 million) tender to construct the “Queen Marie” sports arena, an architectural complex designed to mirror the historic Romanian royal crown.
Architectural design and capacity
The main hall will seat 9,623 spectators for professional basketball, volleyball, and handball events. Combined with an adjacent training hall, the total capacity reaches 9,733 seats.
“The new edifice will be built in the Moara de Vânt area, on nearly eight hectares near the future Regional Emergency Hospital,” said Iași Mayor Mihai Chirica.
The energy-efficient facility will feature a footprint of approximately 13,000 square metres and a maximum building height of 29 metres. An auxiliary training hall will accommodate 110 athletes alongside 1,666 square metres of dedicated outdoor sports courts.
Infrastructure and timeline
Urban integration plans include 5,860 square metres of access roads, landscaped green corridors, and 1,115 parking stalls, 960 of which are underground.
Valued at approximately 2.3 billion MDL, the public procurement procedure is now active. The contracted builder will have two years from signature to deliver the project.
