Hungarian Foreign Minister invited to Moldova: "Let's promote projects benefiting both states' citizens"
Hungarian Foreign Minister Anita Orbán may visit Moldova. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi extended the invitation to her in New York, USA, during a meeting where the two officials discussed bilateral relations and Moldova's path to European integration.
The discussions focused on priorities on the Moldovan-Hungarian agenda, economic cooperation, and attracting investment in sectors of mutual interest. The officials also addressed the regional security situation and the challenges facing the Republic of Moldova.
Mihai Popșoi emphasized the importance of Hungary's support for advancing the Republic of Moldova's EU accession process.
"The strategic partnership between the Republic of Moldova and Hungary, signed six years ago, has provided a solid foundation for the development of relations between our countries. We are keen to fully harness the potential for economic cooperation, strengthen ties between business communities, and promote projects that deliver tangible benefits to citizens of both states. We continue to count on Hungary's support for the Republic of Moldova's European integration process," stated Mihai Popșoi, according to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
For her part, Anita Orbán commended the authorities in Chișinău for implementing the reforms necessary for European integration, as well as the pace of progress the Republic of Moldova has made on this path.
The Hungarian official reaffirmed her country's firm support for the Republic of Moldova's accession to the European Union on the basis of its own merits.
The meeting took place in New York on September 22, as part of Moldovan officials' participation in the United Nations General Assembly proceedings.
Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, is part of the Republic of Moldova’s delegation—led by Prime Minister Vasile Tofan—attending the 81st session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly. The Head of Government is scheduled to deliver a speech at the plenary session on September 26.
Additionally, Chisinau’s top diplomat will participate in several high-level meetings between September 23 and 26. These include the Crimea Platform Summit, a meeting of the Group of Friends on Accountability for Crimes in Ukraine, and a meeting on pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response.
The official’s agenda also includes participation in a meeting marking the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees, as well as the “Partnership for Multilateralism, International Law, Peace, and Prosperity” Summit.
Mihai Popșoi will also hold bilateral meetings with foreign ministers from various countries.
The visit also aims to strengthen the Republic of Moldova’s cooperation with international partners.
The main theme of the UN General Assembly is “Restoring trust, managing transformation: a United Nations that delivers results for all.”
