Popșoi urges respect for Ukraine borders at Crimea Platform
Moldova reaffirmed its unequivocal support for Ukraine’s internationally recognised borders, including Crimea, during the sixth Crimea Platform Summit held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Unwavering support for sovereignty
Speaking at the high-level meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi condemned Russia's war of aggression and Moscow's unlawful annexation attempts. He stressed that protecting international norms remains vital for continental stability.
“Moldova’s position is principled and unequivocal: Ukraine’s internationally recognised borders must be respected,” said Popșoi. “Our shared goal must be clear: supporting Ukraine in restoring its territorial integrity and ensuring that such violations do not recur.”
Regional security and humanitarian solidarity
Popșoi warned that the fallout of the Russian invasion extends far beyond Ukraine, threatening regional stability, food and energy security, and Europe's broader economy. He underscored that Moldova continues to bear the direct burden of these spillover effects.
“Peace cannot be secured when international law is breached and aggression carries no consequences,” the foreign minister added.
Chișinău has backed Ukraine consistently since the invasion began, hosting hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian refugees, facilitating overland transit corridors, and securing grain export routes to international markets. Moldova also formally endorsed the joint declaration adopted by the summit’s participants.
Initiated in Kyiv in 2021 by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Crimea Platform functions as a consultative mechanism bringing together governments, parliaments, and civil society to achieve the peaceful de-occupation of the Crimean peninsula.
