Investigation: Russian Embassy staff in Serbia linked to intelligence
At least 29 of the 78 diplomatic staff members at the Russian Embassy in Serbia either have ties to Russian special services or could potentially have such connections, according to an analysis by the publication "Agentstvo" based on data from Rupep.Org—a database of politically exposed persons—reports TV Rain.
According to the analysis, at least 19 embassy employees have ties to the Russian Ministry of Defense and the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Russian General Staff (GRU), the publication reports.
Three of the embassy's counselors reportedly have links to the GRU. Additionally, three first secretaries at the embassy are registered as residing in Moscow buildings known to house intelligence service personnel.
One embassy attaché reportedly worked in 2017 at the Institute of Cryptography, Communications, and Informatics of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) Academy.
The publication notes that while some embassy employees do not have direct ties to Russian special services, their registered addresses, educational backgrounds, or previous employment provide grounds—according to the analysis—to suspect such connections, TV Rain reports.
